Tech stack
01 — The challenge
Screwfix sells hardware and tools to trade and retail customers, across suppliers and delivery options. A title search cannot carry a catalog this wide, and stock that is not live means an order is promised before anyone knows it can ship.
02 — The solution
We built a Shopify Plus store with Algolia search and filtering, real-time inventory, and separate B2B and B2C account portals. Supplier feeds and ShipStation fulfillment sit behind the order, QuickBooks takes the books, and Klaviyo runs the customer email. Delivery tracking stays on the account, on a storefront that works on a phone.
03 — Key features
Algolia search is built for a hardware catalog, with filters that match how trades specify a part.
Availability is real-time, so the store does not sell stock it cannot see.
Trade and retail accounts share the catalog and keep their own pricing and history.
Orders can draw on more than one supplier instead of a single warehouse list.
Fulfillment runs through ShipStation once the order is paid.
The customer account shows where the order is, not only that it was placed.
Account management covers both the trade desk and the retail shopper.
The storefront is built to be used on a phone, which is where a lot of trade lookups happen.
